A Message from our Library Director
Hello, library friends! As we enter the holiday season, I’d like to extend the warmest of holiday wishes to you and your loved ones, on behalf of all of us at the Smithfield Public Library. I hope that you’ll find some time in the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle to enjoy peace and warmth at the library!
A loyal patron recently donated an amazing device to the library. Her late husband had vision impairment and had purchased a high-definition text magnifier with character recognition and text-to-speech capabilities. We recently installed it near our adult fiction section and we’d love to demonstrate what it can do to help make reading easier for those with vision issues. This year, we also implemented a rotating large-print collection and bought some small magnifiers for home checkout in order to offer more reading enjoyment to all of our community! Drop by and ask how we can help make reading easier for all!
One more thing! Every week, I tell the teens at our Dungeons & Dragons program a corny dad joke or two, and it’s become a fun tradition that they seem to enjoy. I’ll pick one of our favorites each month to share with you in this newsletter, so I humbly present... Shawn’s Dad Joke of the Month!

Bring your family to the library for a fun filled evening with Santa. Make a card to send to the residents of the Birch Creek Assisted Living center, listen to music and meet & take pictures with Santa!

This free app, created by OverDrive, is available for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows 10 devices. Libby is highly recommended for those new to borrowing eBooks and eAudiobooks.
