A Message from our Library Director
Shawn Bliss
Hello library friends!
Just a brief note this month to let you know a little about our Summer Reading program lineup as we go into July:
Our teens have a new Life Skills program every Tuesday from 4-5 PM. From resume building to first aid to setting and communicating boundaries, we'll provide valuable, practical skills for adulting!
Most of our fun Summer Reading programs from June will continue through July. One of our favorites has been our Family Library Evening events every Monday night at 5:30 PM. Every week we have a different fun activity for the whole family, and we'd love to see you there!
We've already started to see folks finishing their summer reading goals and turning in their reading logs. Kids who finish the program will all receive a free book, and adults and teens can submit entries into our awesome prize drawings for each age group. You can turn in your completed reading logs at any time this month up until our Finale Party on July 27th, so if you haven't registered, come in today and start working on your goal!
We're currently planning and organizing our Summer Reading Finale Party. We're celebrating the end of the program on July 27 from 11-3 at Central Park just north of the library. We're going to have a return of last year's amazing foam machine, lawn games, music, and much more. Bring a picnic lunch if you'd like, but leave room for dessert since we're working to bring in sweet treat vendors!
Finally, we've been updating our web page and we'd like to invite you to stop there to submit suggestions for things you'd like to see at the library. Have a new book you'd like to see us purchase? A super fun program idea? An author you'd like to meet? A new movie or magazine you'd love to check out? Fill out a simple online form and let us know what we can bring to you! It's right here: Suggestions
We will be closed on July 4th and 24th for the Independence Day and Pioneer Day holidays, but we'll see you again at 10 AM on the 5th and 25th for library business as usual.
Thank you for being a part of the spectacular Smithfield Library!
Your friendly neighborhood library director,
Shawn Bliss
