A Message from our Library Director

Hello, library friends!

It looks like autumn has finally arrived in Cache Valley. Actually, it’s feeling a little wintery this week! As the weather cools and the days continue to shorten, we hope you’ll find a warm and bright place to hang out in the dark months. Somewhere like the library!

Every month, we add new items to our collection. The majority are books of all kinds: picture books for the kids, graphic novels for our teens, and fiction and biographies for adult readers. We’ve also been adding a multitude of other kinds of materials. VoxBooks are traditional print books with a digital audio reader inside the cover, and they’ve been a big hit with our younger readers! We’re also exploring the purchase of multiple Yoto players, which are self-contained audio players onto which we can download an assortment of audiobooks. Most of the content is for kids of all ages and they’re awesome!

Thanks to a grant from the American Heart Association and the Utah State Library, we’ve also recently added four other new items to our collection: blood pressure and telehealth kits that you can borrow with your library card! All of the kits include blood pressure cuffs, and some also include a digital infrared thermometer and a pulse oximeter which measures your blood oxygen level. These kits can be a useful way to measure your vital signs as you consult with a telehealth physician, or just as a way to keep an eye on important indicators of your physical health. And they’re all available for free, just like all of our amazing collections at the Smithfield Public Library!
